I am Carine – the writer, foodie and photographer behind this blog. I am French and I live in New Zealand with my French husband, Damien (he’s vegan), and our two kids, Emma and Luka (they are picky eaters! those one challenge me to sneak extra veggie in any recipes, even desserts).
I am a busy wife, mummy, fitness lover , sweet tooth and food addict. My life is messy, someday are a bit chaotic but my healthy lifestyle is what brings me joy and happiness.
Things that I love in life are running, body combat, healthy food, my family, and this blog where I can share my creativity with you from my kitchen.
I spend hours everyday reading cookbook, searching for new recipes online or learning more about nutrition.
I am originally a scientist, qualified with a master degree in science, and my passion is to understand food and how it impact my body energy. All my recipes are developed with 3 things in mind : nourishing, easy and sugar free!
About this blog
I began this blog as a simple food diary to keep me busy while I was on maternity leave for my first child, Emma, in 2011. I had type 2 diabetes at this time, and, this blog was the place where I started to share my favorite French recipes (mainly sweet) 100% sugar free. I tested many diet – eating low carb for almost 2 years until I realized that what works well for my body was a wholesome vegetarian diet.
Sweetashoney is the place where I share my family recipes. Those are clean eating recipes made with whole food and no refined sugar. There is still few meat recipes on the blog, that are the one I was eating before and as many of you loves them I choose to keep them live. Although, since 2013 Sweetashoney is a sugar free food blog.
80 % clean recipes – 20 % #treatyourself recipes
That’s my food philosophy! I authorize myself to eat 20% of ‘less clean’ recipes. I am not talking about eating overly processed food from the store like candy bars or ready made meals. NO!
Those are healthy(-ish) homemade comforting recipes that may use a bit of white wheat flour or white rice flour, but overall stay nutritionally balanced and good for my body. I simply believe that it’s unrealistic and demotivating to think you can NEVER enjoy your favorite foods once in a while – and an authentic French crepes once in a month is my treat !
With this mindset there is no strict diet, no ‘bad’ food and you don’t feel guilty about enjoying a treat.
As a clean eater you care about what you put in your body but I believe that 80/20 rule is a fantastic way to enjoy the foods I love and keep my weight in check.
